New Year...New Looks

I have several home projects lined up for 2012. We have been in our house now for 7 years and we are definitely in need of changing things up. I got a little head start on home projects this past week by painting Sydney's bedroom and the kids bathroom.

Sydney moved into her "big girl room" just before she turned 2. I was pregnant so we wanted to make the switch from nursery to big girl room way before baby was due. Her big girl room was a labor of love. I worked on the stripes in that room in all my pregnant glory for what seems like forever. I loved the end product and have loved it for the past 6 years, but atlas my girl is coming into her own and requested a change to her room. Can you believe that she requested to paint over those stripes?? So, after receiving new bedding for Christmas we all headed to the Home Depot to pick out her new room color. She picked some colors and I picked some. In the end...Sydney's choice won out. It was hard to let go of the reins, but with a little push from Bryan I let Sydney pick the color she wanted.

Her new revamped room:

The room is not completely finished yet. I have Bryan making me a crown molding shelf that I saw on Pinterest to go on the wall where her closet is. I still want to add some sort of decoration to the wall her bed pushes up against, but haven't found exactly what I'm looking for. I'm hoping Hobby Lobby will pull through for me with that. I'm thinking I may add curtains or valance...time will tell.

My girl is so happy with her new room and I ended up loving the color she picked so it's a win~win for everyone!

Next up with the kids bathroom. For the past year I have been on a nautical kick. There is a port hole window in the kids bathroom so naturally I felt nautical was the way to go for a redo on their bathroom.

The finished product:

I love the color and I LOVE the towel holder Bryan made. I give him props because it was his idea to put the anchor hooks (from Hobby Lobby) on a strip of old wood. I have a few more decorative touches to add once I find exactly what I'm looking for, but overall this redo turned out just how I hoped.

We are off to a good start around the Jones home...now to keep the momentum going.

Love Sydney's room and the bathroom! Those stripes must have taken forever way back when. Her room looks fresh and "go grown up". The blue for the bathroom fits perfectly with the porthole. Can you come do my house?!
