It's my birthday too, yeah!
Today I celebrate the 6th anniversary of my 29th birthday.
What I would like to know is how did I get here so fast??
Seriously.
The older I get the less I expect from birthdays. My life revolves around Bryan and the kids so going out of my way to plan something for myself is just not on my "To-Do" list. Earlier in the week my mom called to say that her and my dad wanted to cook me breakfast for dinner on my birthday. I was a little taken aback by this only because, sadly, my parents are divorced. The first words out of my mouth were a delayed OK and did you talk to dad about this. Don't get me wrong, my parents have done a really great job of doing things together as a family and I am very thankful for that, but I guess the image of them cooking dinner together for me caught me off guard. ;)
So with the dinner plans in place I didn't think another thought about my birthday.
That is until yesterday. As the morning rolls on I notice that Bryan is vacuuming all levels of the house and even vacuuming the baseboards. This all coming on this heels of him Swiffering, and waxing the hardwoods on the main level on Thursday night. After coming back home from Miles' 1st birthday party that afternoon he continued on his cleaning spree while I started putting Christmas lights up outside (taking advantage of the 70 degree weather we are having currently). I run out of lights and come back inside to find Bryan dusting....
That's when I knew something was up.
I said, "Bryan. What is going on? Are there people coming to this house?" He got a "Did I Do That" grin on his face and says, "I don't know what you are talking about. Can't I just clean the house so you don't have to do anything this weekend?"
Say what?
Since I knew something was going on I started being a bit of a brat because I wanted to know what was going on (can you say control freak?) and then I started panicking because the house wasn't "Jenny clean". I started cleaning too still not knowing exactly what was going on. Bryan would not tell me anything at all. I just wanted to know something so I could prepare. Not sure what I needed to prepare for, but again, I might have a few control issues.
I'm just sayin.
It was literally driving me nuts not knowing what he was up too.
To get to the point of my post...
My husband ended up surprising me with a little get together with all my best girlfriends (and their hubbies). Everyone met at our place (hence the cleaning) and from there we went to eat sushi at the Kani House. Yummy. After dinner we came back to the house for cookie cake and drinks. It was a perfect night. It's so hard to get together with all my girls at one time because we all have kids and jobs and you know...we all have life going on.
So, I must give my hubs some major props for out doing himself. Even though I was acting like a huge stinker because he wouldn't fill me in on what was going on, I am beyond thankful that he did this for me. I really believe I have myself the best husband ever. Thanks B for a perfect evening with my favorite people.
It was just what I needed!
I wasn't thrilled about having to wear this hat while everyone sang to me, but I went with it because you only turn, ahem, 29 once!
My favorite husband. Love this man!
Came home to this delicious surprise.
These are the little cuties that decorated while we were at dinner. They did a great job yelling, "Surprise" when I walked downstairs to the basement.
My girlz. From left to right names and little history...
Lindsay
We met each other in Mrs. Storey's 9th grade English class although I remember admiring her super high bangs in 8th grade "Sex Ed" class. That means we have known each other over 20 years.
Casey
I met Casey in high school. My Jr. year, her Soph year. Her first impression of me was that I was quiet and shy. My first impression was I can't believe this girl has purple hair and she really likes Ru-Paul. We all laugh about that now. We also worked together for several years at Sparkles Roller Rink.
Me - enjoying life as a 29 year old.
Amber
Amber is a "few" years younger than me. I met her through skating...as in competitive roller skating. I won't elaborate on the roller skating thing because that is a separate blog in and of itself. She was 13/14 ish when I met her, I was 19/20 ish. She also worked at Sparkles. Amber was also my concert partner back in the day. We have been to a TON of concerts together. We are just waiting for the next Limp Bizkit show to come around. lol.
Amy
I met Amy at arguably to worst job in the world: Cap Gemini Ernst & Young. My first real job after college. That was 11 years ago. Her friendship is about the only positive thing that came out of that job. Amy and her lovely family also live next door to us. They came over for pizza when we first moved in, next thing you know they bought the house next to us! That was 5-1/2 years ago.
Lindsay
Yep, another Lindsay. I have literally known this Lindsay her entire life. This includes the time she spent in her mommy's tummy. That means she is also a "few" years younger than me. We grew up skating together. Again, I'll leave the skating history for another blog. Lindsay just finished up the long process of getting her doctorate in Psychology. How impressive is that?
My little Lindsay, a Dr. I love this girl!
Erin
Not pictured in the above picture because she was at a wedding, but stopped by the house after.
I met Erin in high school. Her Soph year, my Jr. year. She introduced me to Casey. She also worked at Sparkles for a few years. Hands down one of the funniest people I know. Below is a picture of us from Jordyn's costume birthday party last year.
Thank you everyone for a really fabulous birthday celebration!
Love you guys!
